LinkedIn Boosts Recruitment Efficiency with New AI Hiring Assistant

Hiring & Automation 5 min read , November 9, 2024

LinkedIn, the professional networking platform, has launched a new tool called the Hiring Assistant. This uses AI to speed up the recruitment process for recruiters. It can write job descriptions, find candidates and even reach out to them for initial introductions. Some big corporations are currently testing it, with plans to roll it out more widely by 2025.

How AI is Changing Hiring

AI is changing daily tasks across industries, creating new ways to be more productive and happy. For recruiters, AI means a big change, freeing them from boring, repetitive tasks so they can focus on strategy and human stuff.

Recruiters have always connected people with jobs. But they’re often bogged down by admin work, leaving no time for candidate interaction. 55% of HR professionals say work is getting more demanding, and 42% feel overwhelmed by the volume of decisions they make daily, according to the State of People Strategy Report. This pressure requires tools that simplify tasks so recruiters can focus on the important tasks.

The LinkedIn Hiring Assistant is an example of how AI can make hiring easier. As it takes on many mundane tasks, the Assistant allows recruiters to spend less time on administrative tasks and more time getting to know candidates and making thoughtful hiring decisions.

For example instead of spending hours writing a job post a recruiter can input notes into the AI and it will turn those notes into a full job description. So recruiters can save time and meet the best candidates for the job.

Meet LinkedIn’s AI Hiring Assistant

To help recruiters, LinkedIn has launched the Hiring Assistant—an AI agent that does the repetitive recruiting work. This is available to a select group of certain corporations including AMS, Canva, Siemens and Zurich Insurance. Hiring Assistant simplifies job posting, candidate sourcing and application reviews so recruiters can focus on candidate interaction and strategy.

Built with insights from LinkedIn’s network of over 1 billion members and 68 million companies, Hiring Assistant learns each recruiter’s preferences and personalises the recruitment process. Recruiters can upload job descriptions and instantly get role qualifications and a pipeline of candidates.

LinkedIn Recruiter 2024, offers a generative AI experience, has made the recruitment process better by improving messaging and search. Hirers using AI-assisted messages see a 44% higher response rate, and faster candidate response. Here’s how LinkedIn’s AI intends to impact recruitment:

1. Skills-Based Hiring

LinkedIn’s AI does skills based hiring, moving the focus from qualifications to actual skills. LinkedIn’s Hiring Assistant can find people with the right skills for a job even if they don’t have a “typical” background. Many companies agree skills-based hiring is important but only 17% plan to do it fully. This is likely because it requires a mindset shift away from the old idea that only certain degrees or companies make someone qualified. This means recruiters can find qualified candidates based on the skills and expertise they bring to the table, not just education or previous employers.

2. Candidate Interaction

The Hiring Assistant goes beyond candidate sourcing; it does messaging and scheduling tasks so recruiters can spend more time on valuable conversations. Automated follow-ups and interview coordination reduce admin work so recruiters can talk to applicants.

3. Building In-Demand Skills Through AI Coaching

As tech moves fast, LinkedIn Learning has grown to over 1,000 AI courses so talent professionals can upskill in AI. And we’ve introduced a new coaching feature that helps learners develop human skills through interactive, real-life scenarios. This balanced approach of AI and human skills training means teams will be adaptable in a fast-paced digital world.

Will AI Replace Human Touch in Recruitment?

As AI takes over more tasks, many wonder if it will replace human jobs. The short answer is no. While AI can do some of the admin tasks like scheduling and job posting it can’t replace the human touch. Real recruiters add value by talking to hiring managers, advising on company culture and forming genuine connections with candidates. These tasks require personal understanding and empathy that AI can’t do. Instead, AI allows recruiters to be more strategic and focus on what matters like building a company reputation and helping employees feel valued.

The Gen Z Effect on Hiring Trends

Generation Z, those born from 1997 to 2012, are entering the workforce with new ideas. They value work life balance, mental health and flexibility over traditional work goals. Unlike previous generations who worked long hours Gen Z want jobs that allow them to enjoy life outside of work. Companies that adopt this mindset by offering remote work, mental health support and a positive work culture will be more attractive to this younger generation.

Keeping the Human in AI

One of the biggest worries about using AI in hiring is losing the personal touch. AI can speed up processes but can’t replace the human intuition needed to understand a candidate’s individuality. For example while AI can suggest questions or rank candidates it can’t sense someone’s personality or enthusiasm for the job. Recruiters need to make sure the hiring process remains human, personal and fair. Tech1M leverages AI and data analytics to simplify global talent acquisition with Human-AI Augmentation systems. The Recruiting Future

As the Hiring Assistant tool becomes more mainstream recruiters will need to upskill to keep up. AI is here to stay but will work best as a partner to human recruiters not a replacement. Used wisely AI can speed up the hiring process and make it more inclusive without losing the human touch.

LinkedIn’s new Hiring Assistant shows us what the future of recruiting looks like. As long as companies use AI responsibly and keep the balance between tech and human judgement it can make hiring more efficient, personal and fair for everyone.
